What is the WEEE Directive? Skytech Explains...

The Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment Directive (WEE Directive), which came into full effect on July 1st 2007, has been implemented across UK and most EU countries.

The WEEE Directive is aimed at reducing the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment destined for landfill, thus encouraging everyone to recycle and reuse WEEE and to reduce the amount of WEEE being produced.

Duty of care - your waste responsibilities...

WEEE regulations applies to all types of businesses from manufactures, distributors right through to users of electronic equipment (e.g. computers). It is therefore essential to have a proper waste management process in place to ensure your electronic waste is properly stored, handled, disposed or recycled without harming the environment.

Your waste management process should cover:

• Storing electronic waste appropriately
• Using a registered waste carrier
• Keeping a waste transfer note (WTN) when equipment leaves your site
• Ensure you keep copies of your WTN for at least 2 years
